Structural Systems has been awarded the upgrade works to Tinaroo Falls Dam, North Queensland. This 533m wide dam is mass concrete and up to approx 40m high. The dam was constructed in the 1950's and is being upgraded to ANCOLD requirements.
SunWater have awarded SSL the contract in the order of $10M for the full package to undertake strengthening of the existing dam by the use of high capacity permanent anchors. The 32 anchors which will be installed are up to 79m in length and have breaking loads up to 20,925kN (over 2,000T) making these the largest capacity anchors to ever be installed in Queensland. Five of the anchors are installed in the central 76m wide spillway section.
Structural Systems scope of work involves constructing the pits and headblocks, drilling of 350mm holes through the dam, extensive temporary works to the spillway areas and the permanent anchoring works. Site works will commence November 2009 for approximately a 10 month duration.

successfully completed the Canning Dam project (2000) in Perth and are also currently working on the Catagunya Dam Upgrade in Tasmania, continuing Structural Systems market leadership in this specialist field of works.
